Marc Bekoff

Marc Bekoff, PhD, a biologist who specializes in cognitive ethology (the study of animal minds) and behavioral ecology, is the author of some twenty books. With Jane Goodall, he cofounded Ethologists for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

About Author

Marc Bekoff, PhD, is a biologist who specializes in cognitive ethology (the study of animal minds) and behavioral ecology. He serves on the advisory or directors’ board of several animal protection organizations, including the Fauna Sanctuary, the Cougar Fund, Animal Defenders International, the Laboratory Primate Advocacy Group, Living with Wolves , Green Vegans, and the National Museum of Animals & Society. He is also a member of Rational Animal, the Animal Protection Institute, and the Animal Behavior Society, from whom he received the Exemplar Award in 2000.

 

In 2000, Bekoff founded, with Jane Goodall, Ethologists for the Ethical Treatment of Animals: Citizens for Responsible Animal Behavior Studies. He is also an ambassador for Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots program, in which he works with students of all ages, senior citizens, and prisoners, and is a member of the Ethics Committee of the Jane Goodall Institute.

 

 

Bekoff’s work has been featured on 48 Hours, CNN, Good Morning America, 20/20, the Discovery Channel, the National Geographic Channel, and Animal Planet, and in many publications, including Time, Life, the New York Times, Scientific American, National Geographic Kids, and Ranger Rick
