April Lane Benson, PhD, is a nationally known psychologist who specializes in the treatment of compulsive buying disorder. She cofounded the Center for the Study of Anorexia and Bulimia and serves on the Board of the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy, both in New York. She’s been in private practice in New York City for more than thirty years. Benson appears regularly on network television, on programs such as the CBS Evening News, CNN, Good Morning America, and The Today Show, where she speaks on the topic of compulsive buying. She also makes regular radio appearances, and has been mentioned in the New York Times Magazine, the Wall Street Journal, Money magazine, Simple Living, Vogue, Cosmopolitan, and Harper’s Bazaar. She recently conducted empirical research on the efficacy of the Stopping Overshopping treatment model, the results of which will be published in the Journal of Groups in Addiction and Recovery in early 2013.
