Carolyn Scott Kortge is an award-winning journalist, public speaker, cancer survivor, and former competitive racewalker. She credits walking with reshaping her self-image, bolstering her health, and providing balance and spiritual connection in her daily life.
In her early career as a newspaper reporter, Kortge never imagined that a physical challenge could offer as much motivation as writing. But walking crept under her defenses. In her mid-forties, she entered the first track meet of her life as a racewalker.
A diagnosis of breast cancer in 2000 propelled Kortge onto another life-changing path as she transitioned from walking for speed and fitness to walking for health and well-being. Out of her own cancer experience, she created the Walking Well program. She has presented the program at medical centers, wellness events, survivor conferences, and health resorts and spas across the United States.
