Jay Michaelson is a scholar and activist who has written extensively on spirituality, Judaism, sexuality, and law. He is the author of God in Your Body and the founding editor of the award-winning publication Zeek: A Jewish Journal of Thought and Culture. He is a columnist for The Forward, the Huffington Post, and Tikkun. He holds a JD from Yale University and is completing his PhD in Jewish thought at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

About the Author
Jay Michaelson is the author of four books and over 200 articles on the intersections of religion, spirituality, sexuality, and law. He is a contributing editor to the Forward newspaper, associate editor of Religion Dispatches magazine, and the founding editor of Zeek magazine. His work has appeared in Salon, Newsweek, Tikkun, the Huffington Post, and other publications.
Michaelson is also the founder of Nehirim, a national community of LGBT Jews, partners, and allies. His advocacy on behalf of sexual minorities in religious communities has been featured on CNN, NPR, and in the New York Times. In 2009, Michaelson was included on the Forward 50 list of influential American Jews, and in 2010 he won the New York Society of Professional Journalists’ award for opinion writing. He received his law degree from Yale University and will soon be completing his PhD in Jewish thought at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he holds an MA in religion.
Jay has held teaching positions at Boston University Law School, City College of New York, and Yale University. In 2008–09, he spent five months in silent meditation retreat, and is authorized to teach in the Theravadan Buddhist tradition.
