An Ocean of Dharma Online Event: Smile at Fear

March 29, 2013

Book coverDear Ocean of Dharma Friends,

On April 17 at 7 p.m. eastern time, we're going to host a live, interactive online forum where we will engage Chögyam Trungpa's teachings on fear and fearlessness. This event, "Smile at Fear," is free and open to all! To register, visit here.

It's exciting to be doing this. For a long time, I've wanted to find a way to have more interaction with Ocean of Dharma subscribers and to facilitate people's connection with one another.

The number of subscribers to the Ocean of Dharma Quotes of the Week has grown to over 18,000. I receive numerous e-mails every week from people all over the world who read the quotes and want to talk about the content. People are using the quotes in their work as dharma teachers, psychologists, healers, artists, parents, and in many other contexts. Some people report that they do not have a practice or study community where they live. For them, the quotes are particularly meaningful.

The event on April 17 is an experiment to see how we might use an online environment for discussion—and possibly for contemplation and practice together. The forum could help build an online Ocean of Dharma community, by providing a discussion platform for people who want to know more or want to connect with others with similar issues and concerns.

Carolyn GimianHow You Can Help

Before the forum: Sign up for the event here. Send your questions and comments to Carolyn[at] before the forum, so that I can address these in my remarks on April 17.

On April 17: Tune in at 7 p.m. eastern time. Ask questions; join the discussion. You can also chat privately with others during the presentation.

After the forum: 1. If you're unable to participate "in real time," we'll have a place online where you can watch the recorded forum after it ends. We'll share the link to the recording here on the blog.

2. Send us your feedback. How could the forum be improved?

Any time: Send ideas for future topics for the forum. What would you like to talk about?
Which quotes would you like to discuss?

Please send your emails to Carolyn[at]

I hope that the "Smile at Fear" forum will be both fun and helpful. I look forward to seeing you there!
