A Letter from Carolyn Gimian

November 15, 2012

The Chögyam Trungpa Legacy Project just launched a new website at chogyamtrungpa.com. As the director of the Legacy Project, I wanted to tell you about the work we do and invite you to sign up on the website to receive our newsletters and updates.

The Legacy Project supports the preservation, propagation, and publication of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche's dharma teachings. You might say that we are stewards for the Ocean of Dharma that gives the title to this quote service. With more than 2,500 talks by Chögyam Trungpa to preserve and publish, the scope of our work is quite large.

Book Cover
We work with publishers of Chögyam Trungpa's books and lectures, primary among them Shambhala Publications. Early next year, Shambhala is publishing the three-volume Profound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma, advanced teachings compiled, condensed, and edited by Acharya Emeritus Judith Lief from talks given to senior students by Chögyam Trungpa over the course of thirteen years. This material was previously unavailable to the general reader. It could provide a decade of quotations for Ocean of Dharma Quotes of the Week!

The Profound Treasury is the culmination of more than thirty years of work by Acharya Lief and her assistants. The Legacy Project helped to raise the funds for this project, which came from many sources, and we also provided administrative support for this mammoth undertaking. We're so excited about these books coming out! In future Ocean of Dharma blogs, I'll tell you more about plans to celebrate the publication of these books with events in New York, Boulder, San Francisco, Halifax and other locations.

2012 is the 25th anniversary of Chögyam Trungpa's death. We made 25 aspirations for the next 25 years, to help fulfill his legacy. These goals for coming years include the creation of the Chögyam Trungpa Electronic Library and Archive (CHELA), an online archive and learning community. We are also launching a 25 Year Fund, which will support the publication and preservation of Chögyam Trungpa's teachings for years to come. All of this is described on our website.

The broad readership of the Ocean of Dharma Quotes of the Week shows the enduring relevance of the teachings given by Chögyam Trungpa. I hope you'll be interested in the myriad projects that support his legacy. To learn more, please visit the website at chogyamtrungpa.com.

I invite you to join further in the celebration of this vast Ocean of Dharma!

Do you have plans to translate any of Chögyam Trungpa's works into Tibetan? I know that the current 12th Trungpa has said he would like that to happen, and I think often about how it must be possible - please could you tell me if it is in the pipeline at all?

    Dear Carolyn,
Apologies if my question is not directly related to the chronicles.I am preparing a talk on the six points of mindful speech that are often discussed in the Shambhala Teachings. Is there any book or resource that you would recommend that gives an in-depth explanation of this topic?. I should mention that I am both a kasung and a Shambhala Guide. Many thanks, Tejumo
