Where the River Meets the Ocean

February 26, 2013

Book coverThe vajrayana or tantric teachings of the Buddha are like a river delta: the place where the river meets the ocean is where the vajrayana actually occurs. In order to realize that, you have to appreciate the little brooks that rush from the mountains thousands of miles away. You have to appreciate how much hard work these brooks have done in order to get to the ocean. Without the hinayana, the foundational teachings of Buddha, there would be no continuity. These teachings are the source of vajrayana. Just like all rivers go to the ocean, and you cannot drain the ocean, all dharmas, all teachings, go into the vajrayana, the tantric teachings. It is real truth, like the ocean.
