Michael McCurdy has contributed illustrations to nearly 200 books, including Johnny Tremain, The Gettysburg Address, The Wizard of Oz, and Tarzan. He has twice received the New York Times Ten Best Illustrated Children's Books of the Year Award. Toward the Light, a collection of McCurdy's engravings, was awarded the Bronze Medal in 1984 at the Schönste Bücher aus aller Welt International Book Competition, in Leipzig, Germany. Other of his books have received awards from the New England Book Show and the American Institute of Graphic Arts. In 2002 he was named a Literary Light by the Boston Public Library.
