elcome to the Pema Chödrön website. As a fully ordained bhikshuni, or Buddhist nun, Pema Chödrön is one of a very small number of women, one of an even smaller number of Western women, involved in the Tibetan tradition, and certainly the first American practitioner of the vajrayana tradition to undergo the preparation for and ceremony of full ordination. |

Buddhist Practices on the Four Limitless Ones: Loving-Kindness, Compassion, Joy, and Equanimity
Available in audio. Spiritual practice, Pema Chödrön teaches, has nothing to do with self-improvement, since you’re already perfect right now. The limitless qualities of loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity are your deep-down, ultimate reality. They are there like seeds, waiting to be cultivated through practice—and, being limitless, they’re rich enough to be worked with for a lifetime. This intensive program of study and practice provides the tools you need to access these radiant states and to nurture their growth for sake of all beings, including yourself.
Ten Buddhist Teachings on Cultivating Inner Strength and Compassion
Available in audio. Lojong is a powerful Tibetan Buddhist practice created especially for training the mind to work with the challenges of everyday living. It teaches our hearts to soften, reframes our attitude toward difficulty, and allows us to discover a wellspring of inner strength. In this recorded retreat, Pema Chödrön introduces the lojong teachings and explains how we can apply them to any situation in our life—because, as Pema says, “every moment is an opportunity for awakening.” In addition, Pema also leads a guided tonglen meditation, a practice aimed at developing courage and cultivating compassion for ourselves and others.
108 Teachings on Cultivating Fearlessness and Compassion
Available in print and in audio. Comfortable with Uncertainty offers
short, stand-alone teachings designed to help us cultivate compassion and awareness
amid the challenges of daily living. Gleaned from Pema Chödrön’s
best-selling books, these passages explore topics of loving-kindness, mindfulness, “nowness,” letting
go, and working with painful emotions. They also offer meditation instructions
for heightening awareness and overcoming habitual patterns that block happiness.
By the end of the cycle of teachings, the listener will have completed the
basic training for becoming a “warrior-bodhisattva,” one who
courageously takes up the path of awakening compassion.

Available in print and in audio. In Practicing Peace in Times of War Pema Chödrön draws on Buddhist teachings to explore the origins of aggression and war, explaining that they lie nowhere but within our own hearts and minds. She goes on to explain that, remarkable, the way in which we as individuals respond to challenges in our everyday lives can mean the difference between perpetuating a culture of violence or creating a new culture of compassion. Pema insists that our world will begin to change when each of us, one by one, begins to work for peace at the level of our own behavior, our own habits of thought and action. It's never too late, she tells us, to look within and discover a new way of living.
