"Shojin" is a Buddhist term that means "diligence," "ceaseless effort," and "concentration." This calligraphy is telling us, "Make a heartfelt effort , strive hard, and you can accomplishing anthing."

Hirokawa Kozen was a Soto Zen priest who became an important politican and cabinet minister. In his spare time, Kozen did Zen painting and calligraphy.
