According to the tradition, the Five Maitreya Texts were presented to the Indian adept, Asanga, from Maitreya—the bodhisattva that is said to be the future Buddha of the coming age. The five texts contain teachings on the topic of emptiness and include a distinct emphasis on the view of Yogācāra—a school of Mahāyāna Buddhism.
