Laraine Herring holds an MFA in creative writing and an MA in counseling psychology with an emphasis on writing and storytelling as a healing process. She has developed numerous workshops that use writing as a tool for healing grief and loss. Her short stories, poems, and essays have appeared in national and local publications. Her fiction has won the Barbara Deming Award for Women, and her nonfiction work has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize.

Herring has been on the faculty at the Omega Institute in New York and the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Massachusetts since 2007, and she will soon be presenting a series of online writing courses through the very popular DailyOM website.She is also the director of and a professor in the creative writing program at Yavapai College, for which she developed the curriculum. In addition to writing and writing therapy, Herring has trained in Reiki, yoga, and Qigong.
