Khyentse Foundation and Bala Kids are delighted to announce that Carol Dodd is the winner of this year’s Children’s Book Prize. Carol Dodd is a first-time author based in Hawai’i. She wrote a magical, lyrical children’s book on impermanence for ages 4–8, which will be published through Bala Kids in 2021. The central theme that runs through this sweet, accessible telling is that, “Everything changes, day to night. Everything changes, and that’s all right.”

Ivan Bercholz, publisher of Bala Kids, explains, “Carol’s book simply and beautifully introduces the idea of impermanence through poetic and playful verse. We are so happy to add this book to our growing list of Buddhist children’s books.” And Noa Jones, creative director of The Middle Way School, notes, “the story is lovely and fits perfectly in our school’s impermanence unit.”

The Bala Kids team would like to thank everyone who submitted their thoughtful and inspirational stories on Buddhist themes. We are also thankful for the chance to once again collaborate with Khyentse Foundation in our shared vision of making Buddhist resources accessible to children of all ages.
